The keyboard maker decides if they want to use Cherry or Costar stabilizers or some other thing. There are different stabilizers but that’s not unique to the switch. (Waiting on my MOD-M teal switches which should be showing up today. Until you get deeper into some of the alternatives. So for the most part the colors are pretty standard. Gateron has a clear switch that is different from Cherry as theirs is a light linear switch compared to Cherry’s heavy tactile. Cherry and Gateron also have green switches which are a heavier version of blue. And of course Cherry has their “silent red” which is more of a pink color.

But not silenced like these razer ones are. Gateron does also have a yellow switch which is another linear, very similar to red. They even use compatible housing I believe except Kailh which is slightly different. Gateron, Kailh, Otemu and Greetech all use the normal red, brown, blue and black. Most MX style switches use the same colors. The Orange and Yellow models will be arriving on January 30. The version with the Green switches is available now. The Razer BlackWidow Chroma sells for a stout $170 regardless of switch choice.

A USB pass-through port and headphone and microphone jacks also help justify the Chroma V2's dimensions. Some of that real estate goes to the block of five dedicated macro keys on the far left edge of the keyboard. The keyboard measures 18.7" x 6.7" x 1.5" (48 cm x 17 cm x 4 cm) and weighs in at a substantial 3.3 lbs (1.5 kg). The BlackWidow Chroma V2 is fairly hefty, even for a full-sized keyboard. For comparison's sake, Cherry lists a 50-million-key-stroke lifespan for its popular MX switches, not that we've ever heard of one breaking. Razer says all three options are good for 80 million key strokes. The yellow option complements the "Tactile and Clicky" Green and "Tactile and Silent" Orange options that carry over from the original BlackWidow Chroma. The headlining feature is the addition of a new mechanical switch option, Razer's "Linear and Silent" Yellow switch. Today is Razer's turn to launch a refreshed RGB LED keyboard, the BlackWidow Chroma V2. A couple of weeks we told you about Corsair's updated K95 RGB Platinum keyboard.

The Chroma SDK will allow game developers to take advantage of the multitude of lighting options available for Chroma-enabled devices.
